Engineering in WoW Forever: leveling route and where the gold is

Engineering has always been the profession for people who'd rather have fun than profit. In Forever the camp pieces change that sum a little. An engineer can build a vendor in the middle of nowhere, and that's a service people will pay for in time, gold or goodwill.

What's new in Forever

77 of 275 recipes are new. The camp line is the standout. A Reagent Bot at 17 lets everyone at the fire buy reagents. A Repair Bot at 137 adds repairs. The Anarchist's Workbench at 300 is a crafting station.

The rest is classic engineering turned up: 15 new explosives (the EZ-Thro and Unsanctified lines), 12 fireworks, and new consumable devices. Up at skill 305 those include field transporters to Gadgetzan and Mt. Hyjal, an Ultralight Goblin Glider, and a Gnomish Poultryizer, because of course.

Shopping list

Mithril is the big one: 317 bars, plus 120 Thorium. The mid-route Gold Power Cores and Silver Contacts are cheap. Be careful with the end of the list, though. Truesilver Transformers, The Big One and 80 Hearts of Fire all point at one very expensive final step.

Skill route

The early route is the familiar blasting powder, copper bolts and tubes. Gold Power Cores and Gyrochronatoms take you through the middle, and mithril slugs and casings run up to 265.

The data ends with 20 Dimensional Ripper - Everlook from 280 to 295. In the original game that needed a specialization and a pile of rare mats, so I'd treat it as a last resort, not a plan. There's no route data for 1–5 or past 295.

Making gold while you level

Sell the bombs. Rough Copper Bombs and Dynamite sell to people who like blowing things up in PvP and dungeons. You're crafting them anyway.

The Repair Bot is a service. Groups who camp in the field for hours will pay to repair without a hearthstone trip. Advertise it in guild and trade, and in launch week especially.

Watch the new consumables. The field transporters to Gadgetzan and Hyjal sit at skill 305, past the old cap, so they're later content. If they turn out to be one-use teleports at a sane price, they'll sell to anyone who values their time.
